For nigh on 20 years now, Marillion have been perched firmly atop the mountain of challenging rock. Not even the dramatic departure of festive frontman Fish in 1988 could demolish the resolve of Mark Kelly (keyboards) Ian Mosley (drums), Steve Rothery (guitar) and Pete Trewavas (bass) to bring willfully intricate magnum opae to the faithful.

Since 1989, vocalist Steve Hogarth has made the post of Marillion kingpin his full-time concern and a devoted fanbase has ensured the band's enduring appeal. Cynics may scoff at the homely concept of fan power, but the awesome force of Marillio-mania is documented in all its glory in this month's issue of Q (June 2002) in a dispatch from the Marillion Weekend at Pontins in Brean, Somerset. Therein, yodeling to Focus records took place on the dance floor and several proposals of marriage were made onstage.

Now the band has released a live album, Anorak In The UK Live, and a DVD is due for release on 10 June.
